In the first part of the movie, it tells about the love story of Guido and Dora. Guido is a waiter working in a hotel. He always get bump into his principesssa which is Dora. Guido rescues Dora from marrying the town clerk. After five years he owns a bookstore he manage with wife and son Joshua. It's almost the end of World War II, but that’s makes the position of Jewish-Italians all more precipitous.
In the second part it is when the Germans come to take away Guido and his son. His wife, not being Jewish, choose to go along. All of the Guido ask Joshua to do are in the interest of saving Joshua.
The movie is excellent for families to watch together, to discuss not just the historical trial that work but challenges that parents face when they see their children learn about tragedy and unfairness
